The Dutch Mathematics Prize
Biennial
The Dutch Mathematics Prize is a biennial award for a highly active mathematician working in the Netherlands, aged between 45 and 60. The award is granted on the basis of outstanding contributions to mathematical research with substantial international visibility, as well as to the practice and advancement of mathematics in the Netherlands in a broad sense. The prize consists of an unrestricted cash award of 10 k€ and a certificate. The award is organized and presented jointly by the Royal Dutch Mathematical Society, the Mathematics Section of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Platform Mathematics Netherlands.
The winner of the Dutch Mathematics Prize 2026 is professor Marius Crainic van de Universiteit Utrecht.
In addition to his research, Crainic has been highly active in mentoring young researchers, many of whom now hold permanent positions at universities in Europe and South America. He has also contributed to Dutch mathematics, including serving as research director of the Mathematical Institute at Utrecht University. Crainic previously received the André Lichnerowicz Prize in Poisson Geometry and the De Bruijn Prize, was elected a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in 2016, and was an invited speaker at the 8th European Congress of Mathematics.
