At a festive meeting on Friday 12 June 2026 at the Trippenhuis of the Academy in Amsterdam, Professor Marius Crainic (Utrecht University) received the Dutch Mathematics Prize 2026.

Crainic was decorated for his pioneering work in the field of "Poisson-manifolds" . His articles and books are full of high-quality mathematics, appropriate to the fundamental character of his research. His field of expertise has also been essential to the development of quantum mechanics: Poisson-manifolds form the mathematical basis for the transition from classical mechanics to quantum mechanics.

In addition to his research, Crainic has been very active in guiding young researchers, many of whom have been appointed to universities in Europe and the United States. Crainic also held administrative positions, he was director of the National Mathematics Cluster "Geometry and Quantum Theory" and of the Mathematical Institute in Utrecht for several years. He was also elected a member of the Academy in 2016.
