The Brouwer-Medium 2026 has been awarded to Christoph Thiele in the field of Harmonical Analysis.

Every three years, the Brouwer-Medaille is awarded by the Royal Mathematical Society (KWG) to a leading expert in a specific mathematical field. In 2026, the medal will be awarded at the BeNeLux Mathematics Congress (7 April 2026 in Antwerp), where Thiele will also take care of the Brouwer Lecture 2026.

From the jury report:

"Christoph Thiele is a leading German mathematician, known for his profound contributions in the field of Harmonic Analysis. His work has introduced groundbreaking techniques and solved long-standing problems. His influence began with strikingly original articles about Carleson's theorem and bilinear Hilbert transformation. This work provided the basis for what is now considered advanced time-frequency analysis, a field that he has continued to shape over the years through intensive collaborations.

Equally remarkable are his contributions to the supervision and training of PhD students and postdocs. His influential model of summer schools, first set up at UCLA and later in Bonn, was successfully adopted by others.

Recently Thiele has recreated his pioneering spirit by initiating a collaboration for the LEAN formalization of an extensive generalization of Carleson's theorem. The successful completion of this project will be a milestone, considered the first major formalization project in the field of analysis."
